|The Pursuit of Happiness...

Here we are, in the beginning of this new, Post-Patrick era. The time has come for me to begin setting my life back in order, and figuring out where the heck I'm going with it. I have decided that LiveJournal shall be the place for me to discuss all of the little steps I make in moving on and moving up. I am renaming this journal "The Pursuit of Happiness" becuase that's what it's going to be all about for a while. What makes me happy? What do I find worthwhile? What makes me feel good about myself? During the Patrick era, I found myself stuck in a rut. Not saying it was anyone's fault, but that's what happened. I was stuck in a rut with nowhere to go, and not a thought of how to make it better. It got to the point that I didn't even try. It's like I almost forgot who I was and what I wanted out of life. Well, that's changing. I guess it's partially the typical post-break up thing, where girls have to change their hair and all that, but I want it to be more. I want to stop sitting around and waiting for life to happen. I'm going to go and get it.
I think that the first stop on the road to happiness would probably be a place to live. A space that's mine. Today, I started fixing up the basement room at my mom's that is going to be mine. It started out all spider-webby and gross, but we took care of the spider webs the other day. Today, I started on the paint job. Finished all the trim, and started on the door. I had really hoped to be able to post the "Before" pics here, but alas, I cannot find the cable that connects my camera to my computer, so those are going to have to wait. Expect some very Gizmo-esque posts in the near future. :D
In other news, my brother and sister in law are coming on Tuesday to stay for almost a week while they wait for their stuff to be delivered to their new house in Iowa. Yay! We're planning a "Yay, the idiot ex is out of the house" party for my mom, since my former stepfather is suppposed to have all his stuff moved out by the first. Should be fun. :)
That is all for tonight. I'm getting sleepy. Too much painting.
Ok, pics as promised. I didn't find my cable, but I went to Wal-Mart and found a card reader for $8 and decided it was worth not trying to dig around for the cable today. They're really grainy and low quality since it is, in fact, a basement and there is very little light in the room. It's kinda hard to see how crappy it looked before, but you get the basic idea. These were taken after we swept out the spider webs and cleaned the gunk off the fan blades, but that's pretty much all that's been done in these pics. What you can't see is how yellow the door looked, or how chipped and splochy the paint is on the walls and trim. Shoulda done close-ups, I guess. :)
The trim is all painted white, including the trim on the bottom that's still wood-colored. Working on walls today. More pics later.
